The fantastic Namib-Naukluft national park encompasses the Namib desert and the Naukluft mountains and surrounding areas. It is large, beautiful, and part of it (the dunes) is perhaps the one tourist spot in Namibia that tops Etosha for visitation. The national park is split into two regions, and we first passed through the north region after leaving Spitzkoppe. Our route took us to the Atlantic Coast, through the town of Swakopmund (you'd swear you were in a small town in Germany), and into the hinterlands of the park. We saw the famous crazy looking welwitschia plants, which live to more than a thousand years, and have just 2 leaves. We found a gorgeous secluded (of course) campsite at Blutkoppe, which was a lot like Spitzkoppe but even more remote (and easier to scramble up). After a night of camping, we passed through the north part of the park towards the Naukluft mountains proper.
